Summer House Build in Uxbridge

A Dunelm summer house built from the base up, including carpentry and basic electrical work, with warped timber and a rain delay worked around.

Location
Uxbridge

Project overview

Fullerton Property Maintenance built a Dunelm summer house in Uxbridge. The job started with preparing a sound base for the structure and carried on through the carpentry and basic electrical work needed to complete it.

A garden building like this draws on several skills at once: preparation, carpentry and some electrical work. The whole project was carried out by the Fullerton Property Maintenance team, so one team saw it through from the base to the finished building.

What we did

  • Prepared and created a sound base for the structure
  • Built the Dunelm summer house
  • Carpentry work
  • Basic electrical work
  • General construction and assembly of the summer house

Preparing the base

Before any of the summer house was assembled, the team prepared and created a sound base for it to stand on. A garden building is only as good as what it sits on, so this came first.

The photo shows the paved garden area as it was before the build, with timber battens laid out on the paving. It is a record of the site before the work, not of the finished base.

Summer house assembly

With the base ready, the team built the summer house itself. The photo taken part-way through the build shows the timber walls standing and the window frames in place, with the front still open and a stepladder and power tools beside the structure.

Carpentry and basic electrical work

Carpentry ran through the whole build, and basic electrical work formed part of the job.

Our carpentry and joinery page covers the timber work we take on, and our electrical services page explains the kind of electrical work we do and where we refer on to a qualified electrician.

Working through site challenges

Two things got in the way of a clean run, and the team adapted to both. Neither changed what was being built; they changed how the work had to be organised on site.

  • Rain meant one planned working day had to be moved to another day.
  • Some of the timber components were warped. The team worked around the affected timber and adapted the installation so the project could continue.

Completed result

In the final photo it stands on the paved base with its grey-green double doors and windows in place. It is a good example of the garden building and carpentry work we take on as part of general property maintenance.
